BlizzCon 2019: Overwatch 2 Announced

The second huge announcement at this year’s Blizzcon was Overwatch 2. Murmurs of an Overwatch sequel have been in the wild for a little while now, but it’s great to see the project officially confirmed by Blizzard.

Overwatch 2 promises a greater focus on story, with a tonne of PvE content and story missions. There is also particular emphasis on something that Blizzard is calling Hero Missions. Hero missions are highly replayable cooperative experiences that revolve around a progression system. Players will replay these modes in order to level up their heroes and earn powerful customisation rewards to supercharge a hero’s abilities in co-op play.

All 31 heroes and heroines from the original game will be playable in Overwatch 2, with each one receiving an updated look. Multiple new heroes, including the previously announced Sojourn, will also feature.

All cosmetics and progress will carry over from Overwatch, and players of the original game and the sequel will both be able to play together in a shared PvP multiplayer. Blizzard has promised that “no one will get left behind” and it certainly looks like they’re doing their best to make good on that promise.

Overwatch 2 will release for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PC.
